Introduction to Cisco IOS (Internetwork Operating System)

IOS का पूरा नाम Internetwork operating System होता है। सभी Cisco devices इस operating system के द्वारा ही operate किये जाते है। Basically ये एक command line interface होता है। इस operating system को commands के द्वारा operate किया जाता है। IOS layer 2 और layer 3 के सभी functions को configure करने का mechanism provide करता है। Cisco के सभी routers और switches में ये ही operating system यूज़ किया जाता है।

IOS में बहुत से modes होते है। हर mode के लिए commands का set provide किया जाता है। इन commands की मदद से आप उस mode में work कर सकते है। हर mode को हर कोई access नहीं कर सकता है। इन modes को privilege levels के द्वारा protect किया जाता है। निचे IOS interface का उदाहरण दिया जा रहा है।

Functions of Cisco IOS

Cisco IOS के बहुत से functions होते है इनके बारे में निचे दिया जा रहा है।

• Cisco IOS की मदद से आप different protocols को handle कर सकते है। Cisco IOS आपको सभी protocols के functions को simple commands के द्वारा compute करने की ability provide करता है।
• यदि 2 devices Cisco IOS के द्वारा operate कर रहे है तो उनके बीच में data transfer speed बहुत high होती हैं।
• Cisco IOS network को security provide करता है। ये unauthorized network use का पता लगाकर उसे eliminate करता है।
• जैसे जैसे network बढ़ता जाता है Cisco IOS में need के according capabilities आती जाती है। यदि आपका network बड़ा होता जा रहा है तो आप को परेशान होने की जरुरत नहीं है।
• Cisco IOS ये सुनिश्चित करता है की जितने भी network resources आपके network में है वो हमेशा आपकी पहुंच में हो।

Version Numbers of Cisco IOS

Cisco IOS के बहुत से version release हो चुके है। हर नए version में कुछ नयी functionalities होती है। लेकिन ये जरुरी नहीं है की हर नए version में कोई नयी चीज़ हो कई बार previous version की bugs को fix करके भी modified versions को launch किया जाता है। Cisco की कुछ release categories होती है जिनके बारे में आपको जानना आवश्यक है। इनके बारे में निचे दिया जा रहा है।

• Early deployment (ED) - इस category में जितने भी releases किये जाते है वो सब नए features और नया platform provide करते है साथ ही उसमे पुरानी bugs भी solved होती है।
• Limited Deployment (LD) - इस category के जितने भी releases होते है उनमें कोई भी नयी functionality add नहीं होती है। केवल पुराने version की problems का solution provide किया जाता है।
• General Deployment (GD) - इस category की सभी releases सभी platforms के साथ work करती है। ये सभी Cisco devices के लिए common होती है।
• Maintenance Deployment (MD) - इस categories की सभी releases additional maintenance support provide करती है।

IOS Version Numbers Pattern

हर release category में बहुत से versions release किये जा चुके है। Cisco हर नए version को interesting way में represent करता है। आइये इसे समझने का प्रयास करते है।

ऊपर दिया गया उदाहरण IOS 12.4 की तीसरी release को represent कर रहा है। T एक train identifier है। Trains IOS version के market को define करते है। इसे एक single letter से define किया जाता है। इनके बारे में निचे दिया जा रहा है।

• T - यँहा पर T का मतलब technology से है। इस तरह के version हमेशा नयी technology के साथ updated रहते है।
• E - E का मतलब enterprise से है। Enterprise level devices के लिए जो features release किये जाते है उन्हें इस train से define किया जाता है।
• S - Service provider के द्वारा Internet service provider से related features के release को define किया जाता है।
• जब कोई भी train identifier ना तो ऐसी situation में उस release को machine release माना जाता है।

Cisco device पर console के द्वारा IOS version देखने के लिए आप show version command का इस्तेमाल कर सकते है। Cisco IOS routers और switches में एक flash drive की bin file में stored रहता है। इस bin file में IOS का version कुछ different तरीके से define किया जाता है। इसके बारे में निचे दिया जा रहा है।

Cisco IOS Modes

जैसा की मैने आपको शुरुआत में बताया था की Cisco IOS के कई modes होते है और हर mode की कुछ set of commands होती है। हर mode की अलग अलग privilege levels होती हैं। इन सभी modes के बारे में detail से निचे दिया जा रहा है। यदि आप किसी भी mode से related commands की list देखना चाहते है तो ऐसा आप ? command से कर सकते है।

User Exec Mode

जब आप किसी Cisco device में login करते है तो by default User execution mode होता है। User execution mode में host के नाम के बाद > symbol आता है। यही इसकी पहचान होती है। इसका उदाहरण नीचे दिया गया है। हो सकता है की ये mode password से protect किया गया हो। ऐसी situation में आपको इस mode में enter होने के लिए username और password enter करना होता है।

ऊपर दिए गए statement से आप पता लगा सकते है की इस समय IOS User Exec mode में है।

Privileged Exec Mode

Privileged execution mode में आप सभी files, settings और related information को देख सकते है। इस mode में आप configuration नहीं कर सकते है। इस mode की ज्यादातर commands एक ही बार execute होती है। जैसे की clear command जो counters को clear करती है।

Privileged Exec mode में enter होने के लिए आप User Exec mode से enable command execute करते है। ये mode भी password protected हो सकता है। अगर ऐसा है तो आप login information provide करके enter हो सकते है।

इस mode में host के नाम के आगे # लगाया जाता है। इसका उदाहरण निचे दिया गया है।

इस mode में आपको User Exec mode की सभी files available रहती है। Common commands को किसी भी mode से execute किया जा सकता है।

Global Configuration Mode

Global configuration mode में जितनी भी commands execute होती है वो सभी Cisco device को globally effect करती है। Global configuration mode को functions के according sub modes में divide किया गया है। इनमे से common sub modes निचे दिए जा रहे है।

• Interface configuration mode - ये mode basically Cisco device के ports (interface) को configure करने के लिए यूज़ किया जाता है। किसी भी interface को configure करने के लिए आप interface का नाम और number interface command के आगे लिखकर execute करवाते है। ऐसा करने से आप इस mode में enter हो जाते है।
• Line configuration mode - इस mode में console ports , auxiliary ports और VTY (telnet) ports को configure किया जाता है। Interface की ही तरह किसी भी line को configure करने के लिए आप line command के आगे line का नाम और number लिखकर execute करवाते है।
• Router configuration mode - इस mode से dynamic routing protocols को configure किया जाता है। जैसे की RIP, EIGRP आदि।

Cisco IOS Commands Shortcuts

IOS command line में shortcuts allowed है। लेकिन ये तब ही काम करते है जब ये unique हो। जैसे की आपके पास 4 commands available है।

• Configure
• Connect
• Copy
• Debug

Debug command के लिए de को shortcut की तरह यूज़ किया जा सकता है। लेकिन copy command के लिए आप co को यूज़ नहीं कर सकते है। क्योंकि Configure और connect commands के भी शुरू के 2 letter common है। ऐसी situation में आप शुरू के 3 words भी लिख सकते है। जैसे की connect command के लिए आप con type कर सकते है।

इसी तरह बहुत से keyboard shortcuts भी available है। जिन्हें आप explore करके यूज़ कर सकते है।

Cisco IOS CCNA के लिए एक बहुत ही important topic है आपको इसे अच्छी तरह से समझना जरुरी है।
